Hunt set to miss double-header

David HuntMidfielder David Hunt looks set to lose his battle to be fit for Shrewsbury Town’s crucial Easter double-header this weekend.

The 25-year-old suffered a collarbone injury in challenging for an aerial ball in injury time of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Macclesfield.

Initial fears of a lengthy absence have been avoided. But it seems likely Hunt will be forced to sit out Saturday’s trip to Dagenham & Redbridge and the home clash with Notts County 48 hours later, games Shrewsbury will be looking to win to secure their League Two future.

That will come as a significant blow for the former Northampton man who has worked his way back into the first team fold during the last fortnight after becoming as something of a forgotten figure in the closing weeks of Gary Peters’ reign.

The news, however, is brighter for Marc Tierney, who was forced off at half-time at Moss Rose with a calf problem.

“Both of the injuries have settled down,” said manager Paul Simpson.

“With Marc Tierney it was just a kick and hopefully he should be able to join us (in training) later in the week.

“David Hunt is still very sore. The good news is that there is no break.

“It was a problem with the collarbone and also a bit of whiplash in the neck so it’s just a case of him trying to get full movement in that area.

“We don’t expect him to be available for the weekend and that’s a blow because I like what I have seen of David.

“Hopefully he will be back for the following weekend (for the visit of Bury).”

Simpson continues to scour the loan market for experienced reinforcements ahead of the 5pm deadline on Thursday week .

And, while he refuses to comment on positions he is keen to strengthen, the new manager has confirmed he is looking to bring in two players.

“There is nothing to say yet but we are looking to get a couple of players in,” he added.

“We have got until a week on Thursday but I’d like to do it by this weekend.

“But there are definitely plenty of things to work with in the squad - I could tell that just by looking at the names and I still feel the same.

“We have got to start taking all the enthusiasm and what we are doing on the training field - because training has been excellent - out onto the pitch for as long as the 90 minutes as we possibly can.”

Town reserves are in action at Stoke tomorrow afternoon (2pm), although Simpson will not attend due to a prior commitment.

i do hope we get a minimum of 4 points this easter, i suggest the team wear woolly hats and gloves to keep out the cold. i won’t mention the r word but hopefully there are at least 2 inept teams below us that are capable of staying there, hopefully there are no cutting digs here, remember we still need 8 more points after maccas sterling 2 points against top opposition.
