Hoping Paul brings good times

Paul SimpsonI am delighted with the chairman’s decision to appoint Paul Simpson as manager and I believe he is the guy to bring the good times back to the club, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh. And long overdue they are too!

He is young in terms of a manager and hasn’t had years and years of experience like some candidates.

But this just means he can only improve and can use his experience of playing and managing clubs in different leagues to his and the teams benefit.

He had a reputation at Carlisle of the team playing direct and unattractive football, but if it achieves the results it did and he thinks that is the best way to achieve results, then so be it.

However, he has already said that he wants Town to play attractive football to attract the fans, so we shall see!

The chairman and managing director want the club to be in the Championship in three years which is a lot to ask of the guy to produce. But if he didn’t think he could achieve this or those that appointed him then he wouldn’t have been chosen for the job.

What do fans think of his appointment?

I think it’s a good idea that he inherits the backroom staff, at least until the end of the season, because even Paul admitted he didn’t know a lot about the club and will need their advice.

Good luck to Paul and the lads for Saturday, although we can’t expect too much too soon as it will take time for him to get to know the set-up and the players.

He certainly said the right things at the press conference so lets hope he can put them into practice!
