County a Facebook winner

Ironbridge - one of the county locations treasured by Facebook usersShropshire is being praised as a “magical” place with “stunning scenery” on a website group set up to show off the county.More than 2,470 people have joined the Facebook site “I Love Shropshire”, saying what they like about the area and what they would like to see improved.

The site also includes more than 200 pictures of the county including snaps of Ironbridge, Shrewsbury, the River Severn and historic churches and buildings.

On the site, Chris Griffin says: “There’s not many places in the country where you can go to the main town of the county and find a place with so much heritage, charm and charisma that Shrewsbury has.

“Not only that, but you can go for a walk in any part of the Shropshire countryside and have your breath taken away by the stunning scenery.”

Nearly 400 people have commented on the web page with Robbie George Pickles describing Broseley as a “hidden gem” while Nicki Wilkes says she thinks Bridgnorth needs a McDonald’s or some kind of fast food outlet so that people do not have to drive to Telford.

Dan Thayer, of Ironbridge, says: “Shropshire is brill.”

While Helen Ammerlaan writes: “Shropshire is a magical county.”

It is not just residents of the county that are full of praise for what it offers.

Andrea Phillips, of Australia, who originally came from Shropshire, says: “I will always have Shropshire in my heart.”

And people who have moved into the county also find it the place they are proud to call home.

Dave Reynolds says: “I moved to Shrewsbury from London three-and-a-half years ago and I love it here, I never want to leave.”

Peter Nutting, council leader of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council, said: “I was born and bred here and will always live here and, in particular, Shrewsbury is the jewel in the crown.”

The group is full of people who make fun of Telford inappropriately. Do not condone this group.

shrewsbury this, shrewsbury that, shrewsbury the other… are news stories about Telford included in your rather biased paper and website??? not unless they are making out that Telford is such a bad place to live! is Telford not the birthplace of industry after all?
