Car parking charges across the Bridgnorth district are to increase, it was revealed today. The new charges will be in place from April 1.
The charges were last increased across district car parks two years ago and finance officials say the rise is the minimum amount.
Rob Keane, head of revenues partnership at Bridgnorth District Council, said that the money made from the increase in charges would be used to improve the signage in all car parks as well as making them more consistent with other local authority car parks across the county.
He said: “This is the minimum increase and we last had an increase in 2006.
“The charges are going up with standard levels and some money will be put back into improving signage on the car parks.
“Prices will go from 80p to 90p on Listley Street and Sainsbury’s - two of the short stay car parks in town. The charges have gone up 10p for the first two hours.
“All day charges on Innage Lane have gone from £1.20 to £1.40.
“Manufacturers of the parking machines don’t recommend we use 5ps,” he added.
“On March 31 we will change the signs and make the necessary amendments ready for April 1.”
Car parks affected by the price increase include Listley Street north and south, Sainsbury’s car park, Innage Lane, Dark Lane, Broseley, Smithfield North, Severn Street, Riverside, Westgate, Much Wenlock - St Mary’s Lane, St Mary’s Street, New Road and Back Lane.
