A group campaigning against proposals for an opencast mine in Telford are planning a public meeting to hear about the possible health effects.
The Friends of The Ercall have set a date for the public to hear from GP Dr Dick Van Steenis regarding UK Coal’s plans to opencast mine near The Wrekin.
Dr Steenis, author of Open Cast Mining, Effects on Health, will present his research to what organisers hope will be a capacity audience.
The meeting will be held at Lawley Church Hall on April 4, from from 7pm to 9pm.
UK Coal wants to extract 900,000 tonnes of coal from Huntington Lane, New Works.

The plan is to use the 900,000 tonnes to provide coal to Ironbridge and Rugeley power stations, but if the whole amount was just sent to Ironbridge it would only last for 26 weeks (12.8 weeks for Rugeley).
This is alot of distruction to the area for very little gain.
Their is also the issue of it being an area of outstanding beauty which after the mining has finished would then be a brownfield area. This may mean that houses could be built on the land.
Please make the effort to attend the meeting and show uk coal that they are not wanted here.
