Store says fuel is UK cheapest

petrol_station-5.jpgA supermarket near Oswestry today claimed to have the cheapest petrol in Britain after cutting its prices to under £1 a litre. Stans Superstore is selling petrol for 99.9p a litre for one week.

The offer is five pence cheaper than the national average.

Owner Andrew Faulks said the decision was a way of thanking customers. However, he admitted the store was gearing up for a busy week with staff bracing themselves for an expected rush at the pumps.

Diesel has also been cut to 106.9p a litre.

He said he was posting the price on a petrol comparison website of 9,748 petrol stations across Britain.

“According to that website we will be the cheapest in Britain,” he said.

Fuel price comparison website www.petrol price.com said today that the average petrol price was 105.4p with the minimum price 100.9p and the maximum 115.9p.

Mr Faulks said after dropping the price at 7am today word had spread quickly.

“Even early this morning we were probably three times busier that we would expect to be on a Monday morning,” he said.

“The rush will build throughout the week and we are expecting the weekend to be particularly busy. We have staff geared up to deal with the extra business and to step in to manage queues that might form.”

Stans, which celebrates its 60 anniversary, has always been known for its cut-price fuel. For many yea- rs it has been known as having one of the lowest prices for petrol in Shropshire.
