Kelvin warns Town players

Kelvin LangmeadStraight-talking Kelvin Langmead has offered a clear warning to his Shrewsbury Town team-mates: Improve or be braced for a relegation battle.Town’s longest serving player, who captained the team against Hereford last week in the absence of Ben Davies, offered an honest assessment of Town’s performance at Barnet on Saturday, labelling the showing as “disgusting” and “disgraceful”.

While Shrewsbury remain 10 points clear of the drop zone, he admitted they will be dragged into a fight for survival if their poor form continues.

“If we don’t pull our finger out we will have to look at it now as almost a relegation battle because that is the form that we are in,” said the 22-year-old. “We are probably the team in the League that is doing the worst (at the moment). We have got six points from 36 - the players know that and we won’t hide away from that.

“We are hurting but we were disgraceful (on Saturday) there is no other way to describe it.

“We deserved everything we got from the fans. We are extremely disgusted with ourselves with the way we played.

“Without a doubt, we are rock bottom. We can’t go on the way that we have gone on and expect to achieve something. Although at times we passed it better over the last few weeks we have not been good enough.”

And, after an hour-long inquest by the visitors, Langmead admitted it’s the players rather than manager Gary Peters who should take responsibility.

“I know a lot of fans are throwing it at the gaffer but it’s us as players,” he added.

“He has put a good team together. We are good players and we are under performing.

“As players we have been talking amongst ourselves about how we are going to push on and do things.

“It was constructive. We work together play together and we are also friends. We understand that sometimes some things have to be said and that’s the way it was.

“We all sat down, we all had our say. When you have got that togetherness which we still have there is no way we’re going to start bottling it.

“We are going to work hard and we are going to do it together.”
