Beware teams below us - Larry

Larry ChambersFC Telford United made it seven wins in eight to maintain their pursuit of Blue Square North leaders Kettering - but Larry Chambers insists it is NOT a two-horse race. The Bucks hammered struggling Hinckley 3-0 on Saturday, though that was not enough to cut the gap as Kettering romped to a 6-0 win at Vauxhall Motors.

But assistant manager Chambers believes Telford will have to look below as well as above for the big dangers.

Third-placed Harrogate made their case with an impressive 1-0 win away to a Boston side who beat the Bucks last month.

And Chambers said: “People forget that even if Kettering slip up, there’s not just us who could capitalise.

“It’s very, very tight and Harrogate haven’t gone unnoticed by us. People have tended to forget about them but they keep winning week-in-week-out.

“When I saw that fixture (at Boston) on Friday, I thought they’d do well to get a point there so it just shows what a good side they are.”

Chambers is also warning against reading too much into the recent winning run, insisting there are much harder games to come.

Of those seven wins, six have come against sides in the bottom half of the table.

But the remaining fixtures include games with play-off contenders Harrogate, Southport and Nuneaton at home, and Stalybridge and Nuneaton again away.

They must also go to Kettering on April 5 for what promises to be a hugely significant fixture.

“We’re being very boring and not setting any targets, we’re just looking to the next game,” added Chambers.

“There’s far too much football to play. We go to Gainsborough next Saturday and they won away this weekend so that will be a tough game.

“We’re in good form and we’re in the middle of a good run, but the opposition we’re going to be facing now will be stronger than what we’ve faced in the last few weeks.”
