Lines hit as storm sweeps county

pylon.jpgNearly 150 properties in a Shropshire village were left without power after high winds sweeping across the country are believed to have led to power lines coming down.

The homes in the Lilleshall area were affected yesterday from about 5pm to just before 8.30pm.

The winds were due to ease across the county today but Shropshire Star weatherman John Warner said it was to turn colder on Monday and Tuesday with snow showers possible in some places.

Elsewhere across the country a driver was in hospital today and a number of householders were assessing the damage from falling chimneys as high winds continue to batter the north of England.

Mr Warner said wind speeds yesterday were up to 50mph while in the North-East and West of Scotland they were up to 80mph.

He said the windy conditions were due to a deep depression sweeping past the north of Scotland.

    That,and of course the lack of maintenance!
