Pensioner 20 years young

Margaret WilliamsPensioner Margaret Williams from Telford is celebrating her 20th birthday today.Despite being born 80 years ago, Mrs Williams is only celebrating her 20th birthday today - because she was born on leap day, February 29, 1928.

Instead of her real birthday, she normally celebrates on March 1. “I can’t hold it on February 28 because I wasn’t born then,” said the mother-of-six, from Ketley.

“It’s quite unusual being born on a leap year. I remember when I was at Priorslee School there was only one other person.

“But I’ve had more congratulations and presents this week than ever before.”

Mrs Williams, has five daughters and one son who who lives in Australia, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was married for 56 years to Arthur, who died two years ago.

Mrs Williams said: “I’m a member of four senior citizens clubs and I call the bingo every week. There are people there who are 90 and if I look as good as them when I’m 21 I shall be really pleased!

“I have always wanted a 21st birthday and I didn’t get one the first time round!”

Her birthday is being marked with a large party at St Georges Cricket Club.

About 80 guests have been invited to the party, including a school friend and the bridesmaid of Mrs Williams.
