Robber of man, 86, locked up

Luke BroomeA teenager who robbed a Shropshire war veteran of just £4 at knifepoint in his own home was today locked up for five years.

Nineteen-year-old Luke Broome, of Ash Close, Ludlow, was sentenced to five years’ custody. He had previously admitted robbing Herbert Evans, 86, when he broke into his Ludlow home on October 21 last year.

Mr Andrew Barkley, prosecuting at Shrewsbury Crown Court, said: “Mr Evans was watching TV when he heard a noise.

“Thinking it was his son who lives nearby he opened the door, but no-one was there. However, once he closed the door he was confronted with a knife.

“He said he had no money and handed over a small bag containing about £4.”

The court heard Broome’s fingerprints were found at the scene and he was arrested in November.

Mrs Sarah Cooper, for Broome, said: “Broome was diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder as a youngster and his mother was also diagnosed with cancer, which meant he spiralled out of control.”

A 19 year old wastrel, probably never done any useful act in his life uses a knife to force an 86 year old man to give him £4 IN HIS OWN HOME. He is given 5 years of which he will serve 2 1/2. If we want proof of New Labours TOUGH ON CRIME TOUGH ON THE CAUSES OF CRIME here we have it. Then Jack Straw tells the judiciary not to use prison as a sentence if it can be avoided. What a sick joke, this moron should have got ten years, all served.

Perfect sentence and shame on Luke for such a cowardly act !!!

This veteran fought in a war so people like him could live !!!

I hope Luke reads a few books about WW 2 whilst he is at her Majesty’s pleasure -it may enlighten him on the difference between right and wrong and why it was wrong to rob that pensioner !!!

Sentenced to 5 - out after 2 - and thats only if they don’t kick him out early because the walls are already at bursting point with his peer group.
Compassion is hard, difficult and challenging, thats why I tend not to bother with it anymore - this moron knows right from wrong, don’t let anyone fool yourselves about that.

Luke, should you ever read this message (which I doubt as you don’t have the intelligence) may I inform you that the person you robbed at knifepoint faced dangers during the war many hundred times greater than what you will ever face. The man you robbed and many others like him fought for this country and sacrificed many many things in the hope that it would give a better life for generations to come.Whether they succeeded or not is irrelevant. The fact is that they went through war, famine, disease, poverty and hunger for the likes of YOU!! YES YOU!!
And you thought it would be a good idea to rob this man and threaten him at knifepoint! SHAME ON YOU!
We all think you are a pathetic, weak and useless individual.
I hope that locking you up for a while will teach you a lesson.

After meeting some of the real hard men in the prisons of Britain (including veterans of more recent wars) I do not think Luke Broome will be smirking nearly half as much as he was in the photograph shown.

I imagine a spell inside will wipe the smug grin off his face, which isn’t improved by him having drilled a hole in it.

It might seem big and clever to terrorise an old man who has probably seen and done more in his long life than this waster will ever do, but he’ll find that the pecking order in a prison requires a completely different set of rules.

It would seem that if you are diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder it explains everything and you can do what you like. This is a horrible, cowardly and very nasty young man who needs to be dealt with very strongly so that he does not target people wwho cannot defend themselves.

“..diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder as a youngster and his mother was also diagnosed with cancer, which meant he spiralled out of control..” How does he think the rest of us manage when our loved ones get sick ….? I hope he gets the stuffing kicked out of him in jail. As for ADHD, as Nick said, it allows you to do what you like, eh? Give me a week with them, they’d learn how to behave.

Five years custody and out after two and a half. That’s how it stands at the moment but I bet his legal team, financed from public funds will be appealing against sentence, in an attempt to get it reduced.

We have a health service starved of funding, nurses pegged to 1.9% pay increase yet we throw money at this scum and others like him to protect them from the very society they offend in.

The whole system needs a re-think

Lolly Ockerstrom, it’s that bleeding heart approach that
has got this country into the unruly, uncivilised state
that it is. How dare you say that he needs the same
prayerful consideration as his victim. You pray for him
if you wish but don’t ask realists to do the same, give
him to me and I guarantee that your prayers would not go
    amiss afterwards, neither would his.
