County’s most expensive streets

a-row-of-houses.jpgShropshire may not have a millionaire’s row but there are plenty of streets where the homes are worth well over half a million.

Top of the tree is Ryton Park, Shifnal, where average home prices are £717,900, according to a new national survey. Canonbury in Shrewsbury is a close second, boasting an average value of £714, 300.

In fact, there are 28 streets in the Shropshire Star circulation area where the average house price tops £500,000.

Nineteen of these luxury streets are in the SY postcode area, which has a total population of almost 320,000 and an average house price of £181,465, according to figures by property information firm Mouseprice.com.

Hot on the heels of Canonbury is Mayfield Gardens, in Shrewsbury, with an average of £700,900.

The TF postcode, which has a population of almost 200,000 and an average house price of £158,258, includes five streets where you’ll need above half a million for an address.

Such well-heeled streets may be sporadic but they are spread far and wide across Shropshire and its borders, with places as far apart as Whitchurch and Ludlow, Wem and Church Stretton, Oswestry and Bridgnorth and Newport and Craven Arms all offering something for those with a little extra to spend.

Few such streets are to be found in Shropshire’s border areas, though. Mid Wales, which covers SY15 to SY25, has none. Neither do the four areas of LD - Llandrindod Wells, Rhayader, Knighton and Presteigne.

It is a similar story in Kington and Leominster (Herefordshire), Gnosall and Eccleshall (Staffordshire) and Tenbury Wells (Worcestershire).

The desirability of homes in Cheshire does, however, see the Nantwich area boast seven such streets including Chapel Lane in Audlem.

Nationally, more than 2,000 streets have homes costing at least £1 million on average. The figures demonstrate the astonishing extent of the property boom. In 2000, 322 streets boasted homes that would fetch seven-figure sums.
