Hundreds in rush to buy homes

property-contract.jpgHundreds of prospective homeowners were today clamouring for a chance to buy one of the first homes to go on sale at a 317-house estate in Bridgnorth.

Persimmon Homes opened its temporary sales office for buyers looking to secure a home in the new development off Wenlock Road, which will be known as Wenlock Rise.

People who have expressed an interest in the estate have been sent letters inviting them to today’s launch.

There was a strong turnout after Persimmon said it had been flooded with inquiries after being granted planning permission last year.

Jim Swynnerton was one of the prospective buyers looking at homes today.

The 30-year-old, from Bridgnorth, said the development was a good opportunity for first-time buyers like himself to get on the property ladder.

“We are looking to buy a property in Bridgnorth, which is a really hard area for first-time buyers. It is so expensive so this new development is ideal and hopefully will give us a chance to get on the property ladder.”

Persimmon has put up a temporary sales office on land opposite the site for prospective buyers to have a look at what will be on offer. The first show homes are expected to be open for viewing in May, with the development complete by early summer.

Persimmon put the first three homes at the estate up for sale today, with prices ranging from £194,950 for a two bedroom house to £315,000 for a four bedroom home.

Debbie Smith, sale advisor at the site, said: “We are expecting to be inundated throughout the day.”

Jy=ust shows you that the house owning democracy started by Maggie Thatcher is as popular as ever.

Only a fool would rush in buy a property at the moment, but then again how much truth is there in this article.

They say Steve that the only thing worth putting money into these days is property - the banks, etc [well forget it]. How true is this I wonder ?

This is Bridgnorth we are talking about. Demand for housing in nice small towns in Shropshire will always be high.

I thought that the development was going to provide “affordable housing” there again what is affordable these days. I certainly can’t afford a mortgage for £194k it was a joke trying to get one for a flat for £110k!!!!

I bet that the demand will soon evaporate when people see the price of these ‘affordable’ houses!
