Construction of Telford’s own millenium village is well underway in Ketley - we visit one of the remaining residents in his home, right in the heart of the building site.

Our video journnalist talked to Bernard Thompson who lives in one of just 14 old homes left standing amid all the new construction work.

I wish Bernard the best of luck. I lived at Glen Cottages for 30 years. I could not sell out to the developers fast enough. I am so glad I don’t have to endure sure vile conditions any more. It must be almost impossible to keep a house clean and tidy in all that mud.

On the edge of the site just a couple of hundred metres from Bernard. Whilst I have no doubt the site as a development will be successful, in achieving that success the developers have removed some rights of way with no alternative provision made to the detriment of local people who previously had enjoyed the rights of way. It’s also worth remembering that in order to achieve the desired number of houses on the site open space and amenities had to go and although there are substitutes being made the large open Central Park and playing field area that ketley once enjoyed has gone along with the generous free parking area the community centre had and will never be replaced.
Ketley Parish Council is striving to ensure that the facilities in the new community Centre has will match those lost when the old building was pulled down in order to erect new houses it is however an uphill battle with Telford and Wrekin Council.
