Ken looks to life after TNS

Ken McKennaManager Ken McKenna is keeping his future options open after confirming he will be leaving Welsh Premier high fliers The New Saints at the end of the season.McKenna has enjoyed almost a decade of success at the club, both as player and manager, and is currently chasing a record-equalling fourth successive league crown this term.

But, having informed the players of his decision following talks with managing director Mike Harris, he said he now needed a fresh challenge within football.

“Having been with the club for nearly 10 years, and having had a lot of good times, it is a bit of a wrench to be going but felt I needed a change,” he said.

“At this stage I’m not ruling anything out, and could even stay in Wales.

“Contrary to some reports, I’ve not got anything lined up, I’m just keeping all my options open at this stage.”

A qualified Uefa A coach, McKenna is likely to stay in management but is not ruling out working within Academies.

Managing director Harris stressed that the parting was amicable.”Ken has reached the stage of his career where he needs a new challenge to put everything he has learned with us to good use at a higher level,” he said.

A vastly experienced striker who won an FA Trophy winner’s medal with Telford United and a Welsh Cup winner’s medal with Bangor City, McKenna joined TNS as a player in season 1998/9.

He has taken TNS into Europe seven times, including high-profile games against Manchester City and Liverpool.
