Shifnal have outlined their intentions to challenge for cricketing honours in the Birmingham League premier division by unveiling three new faces.
Australian Gary Putland, young Shropshire batsman Bruce Thomason and experienced spinner Guy Bulpitt have all agreed to join the Priorslee Road outfit.
Putland, a left-arm seamer, has a handful of one-day appearances for South Australia to his name and has replaced Dewayne Bowden as the club’s overseas professional.
Thomason has agreed to the move from Smethwick, having impressed for both club and county last season.
And 38-year-old Bulpitt has decided to play his cricket for Shifnal after the Cannock left-arm spinner attracted attention from a host of premier division clubs.
“Bruce is a bright young Shropshire talent who is looking to break into the county team on a regular basis and that is the type of player we are looking to attract,” said manager Chris Cadman.
“Guy is at the other end of the age spectrum but we needed the spinner, with Andy Gray moving on, to complement Asif Sultan.
“He’s got an excellent economy rate and he’s full of competitive spirit, but a lot of people thought he couldn’t be prised away from Cannock.
“Gary comes highly recommended and we feel he is the type of bowler who can do well in English conditions and put it in the right areas consistently.”
Cadman, who has already secured the service of Martyn Davies from Wem, has not ruled out attempting to add another batsman to his squad.
Off the pitch the club has been successful at securing sponsorship deals with Proactive Personnel and Marstons, but is continuing to seek new sponsors for the new season.
