Two members of Telford Rifle Club battled it out with people across the country at competition in Scotland.
Michael Wilkinson, of Ketley, scooped a silver medal in the indoor 25 metre event at the Centenary Competition, while Fred Dukes, of Newport, finished eighth.
The competition, held in Falkirk, was open to clubs across the UK.
Mr Wilkinson, 60, who has taking part in rifle shooting for almost 50 years, said: “It’s quite an achievement to do well against competitors from all over the country.
“I enjoyed taking part. But the thing is with shooting, although you are competing against others, you are actually competing against yourself.”
“We both use German made Anschutz competition target rifles which are capable of putting all the shots through the same hole at 100 metres although I’m sad to say neither Fred or I have been able to achieve that for a few years.”
Mr Wilkinson added: “Target shooting is one of those sports that looks very easy but in reality needs intense concentration and a lot of practice.
“If the tip of the muzzle is out of line by only a 10th of a millimetre at the firing point the bullet will not hit the bull.”
Telford Rifle Club meets on Tuesdays at Trench Territorial Army Base in Trench.

I’m not surprised at “Hot-shot Michael”. I’ve known the guy since 1966 when we were at RAF Rheinlahlen together. He always had a good eye and rarely missed anything of importance. He’s a great photographer and a very good, sincere friend. Al-in-all I’d say that in the not too distant future “Hot-shot Michael will hit Gold!”
Pleased to see that my friend Fred is still shooting well. I wonder if he can still hit a Ptarmigan?
Well done Fred. It’s good to see you doing well with the ‘Hot Shots’ and no mention of a Viva!
