A £5 million scheme aiming to help breathe new life into a run-down area of Shrewsbury has been sent back to the drawing board after people living there said they disliked the plans.
Proposals to regenerate Sundorne’s Moston Road area to provide up to 40 affordable homes and shops are being worked on by Severnside Housing and the borough council.
Plans included replacing some of the existing shops at the site with new ones.
But after a backlash from people who would rather see the shops removed, the plans are now being revised.
Severnside asset management director Matthew Spittles said: “Feedback showed that in the main residents wanted the existing shops cleared and did not want to see them replaced with new ones. We are taking this into account and have met with architects to look at a revised scheme.
“We have written to all residents living in the proposed regeneration area, explaining this process.
“Once we have revised the scheme, and looked at the cost implications of this, we will be submitting a new bid for funding from the Housing Corporation.”
Mr Spittles said the social landlord had completed three phases of consultation.
The full scheme is dependent on the outcome of a bid for funding from the Housing Corporation, which is expected to be known by the end of March.
The next drop-in session over the plans will be held at the Lantern building in Meadow Farm Drive on February 16, between 10am and 2pm.

ohhh no we don’t want affordable housing in Shrewsbury, keep the poor people out.

anything would be better then whats there. If there say no to next plans give the money to someone who needs it. like us back
