Basketball bounces into county

Team Birmingham Panthers will take on British Basketball League high flyers Newcastle Eagles on Sunday, February 17 (4pm), and Plymouth Raiders on Saturday, February 23 (7pm) - both at the Sport TCAT Arena in Wellington.

The Panthers’ organisation is led by Herman Wilson, assistant coach to the former Birmingham Bullets who was head coach of the Shropshire Warriors’ West Midlands Premier League men’s squad in 2006-07.

Panthers were due to play at Aston Villa Leisure Centre, but just before the season the venue was deemed unfit for BBL games.

With no other viable alternative in Birmingham, Panthers settled on playing their home games in Walsall at the Wolverhampton University Sports Centre.

Anticipated large-scale sponsorship for the franchise has not been forthcoming and results have not been as hoped.

However, the squad has turned in a number of encouraging performances, most recently their exciting overtime win against the London Capitals last weekend at Walsall.

Herman and his head coach Nigel Lloyd and general manager Clive Allen - two legends in British Basketball - hope that their squad will be inspired by the two sell-out crowds that are expected at Sport TCAT.

Tickets for the two games will be £8 for adults and £5 for fans aged 16 and under. A special family deal of 4 tickets for £20 is also available.
