When Guy and Clare bought the hall it was virtually untouched since it had been built. The people they bought it from still used the bread oven and would draw their water from the well, although they had fitted central heating and rewired the property.
Guy knows some descendants of Mr Oakley’s family who now live in Australia. They have sent him photographs of the Oakley family that were taken in the 1860s.
One of the descendants remembers the hall when it had aviaries, as well as a huge greenhouse, a farmhouse kitchen garden and peacocks strolling in the grounds.
