The devastated family of murder victim Charlie Smith today said her “evil” killer should never be allowed to walk the streets again.
Miss Smith’s parents, Janice Harris-Smith and Tony Garrington, and sisters Samantha Preece and Kamina Smith, sat through every day of the nine-day trial, where they heard how the 27-year-old was brutally murdered.
Mrs Harris-Smith said: “I’m very emotional but elated. My thoughts are that he is never going to come out after 26 years because he is a danger to society. He is pure evil.
“I didn’t imagine someone like him could have existed until now. You see people like him doing what he did in horror films.”
Mr Garrington said: “Whatever my daughter’s killer got wasn’t going to be enough. I don’t think he will ever be released - he should never come out of there.
“If there ever can be justice for Charlie that is it, but it doesn’t bring her back but does stop him taking someone else away.”
Miss Smith’s younger sister, Kamina, said: “We are completely relieved. I have heard what I wanted to hear. I can now bring all of the happy memories of her back.”
Elder sister Mrs Preece added: “He should never walk the streets again.”
A family statement also read: “It is hard coming to terms with the fact we will never see her again, feel her hugs, see her beautiful smile and hear her infectious laugh.
“Her daughters have to live a lifetime without their treasured mummy. He has shattered so many lives and taken Charlie’s life when she had so much to live for.”
Max Bennett, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said they were delighted with yesterday’s verdict and thanked the family and the team of detectives from West Mercia for their work.

At last, a decent judge who passed a sentence befitting the crime.
I agree totally, it’s just a pity that he couldn’t be put through the terror he put Charlie and her family through.
jail is to good for him he has left two children without there mother ,karis was i lovely young woman with her whole life in front of her with the intention of being a service to others , and he took all that away - and left her family and friends heartbroken he deserves to suffer ,.
