The number of spaces that will be created by Bridgnorth’s new town centre car park is set to be reduced by 16, it was revealed today.
Fresh plans for the new Smithfield car park and Whitburn Street relief road show that developers have altered their original design from 305 spaces to 289 spaces.
A two-storey building at the rear of 22-25 Whitburn Street, which had been earmarked for demolition, will now also be saved. Instead a detached building at the rear of the former Northgate garage will now be knocked down as part of the new route for the relief road.
The car park and relief road are being created as part of a wider development that includes an extension to Sainsbury’s, a new DIY store, a garden centre and four smaller retail units.
Bridgnorth Town Council has already given its backing to the amended plans.
District council officers have recommended plans are approved by the development control committee on Monday.

Build on the entire car park. Tell you what, even better idea. Build on all the car parks in Bridgnorth and have free buses take people to Merry Hill.
I mean, you might as well, with crazy ideas like that…
Build a multi storey car park on the waste land at Squirrel Bank. Drive in and out at the bottom. Walk in and out by the Library at the top.
