Sky-high Bulls aim to charge on

Striker Trevor Benjamin will be aiming to consolidate Hereford United’s promotion push when they take on Chesterfield at Saltergate tonight live on Sky.Benjamin has scored 10 goals in 27 League and cup games for Hereford and will be out to outgun Chesterfield leading marksman Jack Lester

Lester tops the division two list of marksmen with 17 goals from 22 games for the Derbyshire club but Benjamin is confident Hereford can continue their promotion chase when they return to league action after their win over Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup.

“We have surprised a lot off people but we are not getting carried away,” said Benjamin.

Hereford will also be looking to Simon Johnson and Theo Robinson to put the pressure on Chesterfield.

Johnson has scored twice in Herefords last two games against Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere after his contract had been extended by Graham Turner.

“Simon is repaying us for the deal we have given him to the end of the season” said Turner. “Some players go into a comfort zone when that happens but clearly Simon has not.

“Things didn’t happen quite right for him when he was at Leeds but he has not lost his ability.” Teenager Robinson has missed out in Hereford’s last five games but still leads The Bulls’ goal scoring with 12 to his credit this season.

Hereford have won eight of their 12 away games but they will have to be on their guard against Chesterfield who are in seventh place.

“It promises to be another hard fought encounter but one we know we are capable of winning if we are anywhere near our best,” said coach John Trewick.

Hereford will be again without striker Steve Guinan, midfielder Luke Webb and fullback Robbie Threlfall.
