Loan striker Michael Husbands looks set to remain at AFC Telford United for the rest of the season - with a permanent switch now very much on the cards.
The 24-year-old’s second month with the Bucks comes to an end after today’s clash with Leigh RMI, a game he was expected to miss due to a knee ligaments injury.
But his future at parent club Macclesfield Town is far from secure, and Telford boss Rob Smith has already spoken to Silkmen counterpart Ian Brightwell to express his desire to hold onto the player.
“We’ve spoken to Macclesfield and, whatever happens there and whether they keep him or dispense with him, he’s going to be here with us for the rest of the season at least,” said Smith.”Either way he’s not going to go anywhere else and we’ll either sign him on loan again or sign him as our player if Macclesfield release him.
“We can’t get rid of him and he absolutely loves the place.
“It’s quite amazing really, we had a session on Tuesday and the rain was horrendous. No professional footballer I’ve known would have trained in those conditions, but he did and he really enjoyed it.”
Husbands, who began as a trainee at Aston Villa and has also played for Hereford, Southend, Walsall and Port Vale, has scored three goals in six starts during his injury-plagued time with the Bucks.
But he is close to a return to action, and Smith is backing him to make an impression over the coming weeks.
“He’s been training with us all week and he can actually start with a football next week, so that’s more positive news for us,” the Telford chief added. “Hopefully he’ll be available for the Hucknall game next Saturday.”

Husbands is the man to fire us into the play-offs. What a difference a week makes, last week Solihull Moors and the doom merchants came out the woodwork. What will they say this week after thrashing Leigh 6-1, five goals in the second half. What a rollercoaster to be on!! Go Smithey rub there noses in it.
