Flooding before the defences

Marcus Watkin, of Hadnall, has sent us these photos of flooding in Shrewsbury before flood barriers were installed in the town.

“I have been having a tidy up around my house and came across these pics,” he says”
“They are not from this last flood but some years ago. They must be at five years old, as I have been in a wheelchair five years,and they were taken before then, so am guessing that 2001-2.

“The one picture looking towards the Tyre depot has the old decorators merchants on the left that now houses my wife’s bridal shop (Jessica’s bridal).”

He adds: “It’s a good job that the flood barriers can be put in place now as it has reduced the risk considerably and the businesses in that area can now get full insurance too.

“It gives one a chance to compare the results of having the flood defenses. They were taken with a ‘old style 35mm camera’!”
