In-form wing-back Simon Forsdick is set to miss AFC Telford United’s clash with Blue Square North’s bottom club Leigh RMI because of a swollen ankle.Forsdick has been arguably Telford’s best performer of the last two months, and his absence tomorrow is a problem for boss Rob Smith as he looks to steer his side back on course after last week’s 2-0 defeat at Solihull.
But the Bucks chief is keen to get the game on, and club officials are confident they can beat the weather - with a pump lined up to clear excess water off the pitch if necessary.
“Fossie (Forsdick) got caught on the ankle last Saturday and it’s just flared up. I’d say he’s very doubtful,” Smith revealed.
“He’s been very good for us, and that’s all the more reason why we can’t risk him because we’ve got some big games coming up. We’ve got the option of playing Asa Charlton there and he’s done it earlier in the season.”
The visit of Leigh RMI will see the return of midfielder Scott Willis to the New Bucks Head.
The Scouser was part of last season’s UniBond League promotion-winning squad and has just returned to the Leigh line-up after almost three months out injured.
“Scott didn’t have the best of times with us but he’s a cracking lad and we’ve stayed in touch,” Smith revealed.
“It will be nice to see him again - I just hope he doesn’t come back to haunt us.”
Leigh are cut adrift at the bottom at present, and lost 1-0 at home to Redditch last weekend.
But Smith insists there will be no complacency in the home dressing room, especially after the defeat to Solihull, another struggling side.
“Last week was a warning to us,” he added. “We had someone watching Leigh play Redditch and apparently they absolutely battered them for most of the game.
“They’ve got a couple of lively forwards and a couple of lively wingers too, so we have to be aware.”
