Group vows to fight proposal

Residents of a Mid Wales community have formed an action group to fight a planning application to site a caravan park on a water meadow near their homes.

The Talerddig Valley Action Group has vowed to oppose a renewed application to site mobile homes on land adjacent to Hafodwen Newydd, Talerddig, a plan was first put forward to Powys County Council and then withdrawn 18 months ago in the face of strong opposition.

The action group that has tagged the application as “mobile home misery”, says it can claim the support of all the residents of the valley.

A spokesman for the action group said today residents met last week and “unanimously resolved” to oppose these plans for the second time.

Llanbrynmair Community Council had also voted to reject the scheme.

The 2006 application was for more units than the current one.

A spokesman for the action group said: “This site is totally unsuited for development of any kind and should be left as undisturbed water meadow.”

He said the new plan was to site double caravan units at Talerddig and the main areas of concern were access via “hideously sub-standard” narrow lane and the possibility of flooding.

He said: “Of overwhelming concern to local residents is the safety of the junction with the A470 at Talerddig that was described as ’seriously substandard’ by the Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency in 2006.

“The narrow single-track road between the main A470 and the proposal is also hideously substandard to accommodate more traffic.”
