The chart-topping Fron Choir from the Shropshire border won a new fan over the festive period - the Queen.

Her Majesty played the Froncysyllte Choir’s CD over Christmas at Sandringham, a letter from the palace has revealed.

However attempts to get a copy of the choir’s risque charity calendar over the internet were blocked by the palace’s computer security measures.

Now the choir, which said it was delighted by the Queen’s interest, is going to send her a copy of the calendar, which shows 12 choir members baring almost all to raise money for Help the Aged.

Choir chairman Dave Jones said he was not sure which member had sent the Queen the CD, Voices of the Valley Encore with Christmas greetings from Fron.

“We had a letter from the Queen’s equerry saying the CD had gone into Her Majesty’s music collection and have since heard that it was played at Sandringham over Christmas,” he said.

“Apparently track two, Falling in Love with You, is one of her favourite songs.”

The letter from equerry Squadron Leader Andy Calame says: “I tried to obtain a preview of your calendar via the internet for Her Majesty, but was unfortunately blocked by palace computer security.”

It adds: “We look forward to your next successful album or starring roles within the next blockbuster film, which I would be keen to play for Her Majesty when available.”

The choir is to feature in a Hollywood film. Scriptwriter Debbie Isitt has had talks with choir members.

Mr Jones, of Llanymynech, said a calendar would be winging its way to the palace. The calendar and other fundraising has raised tens of thousands of pounds for Help the Aged.Sandringham

The letter from the Palace:

Saturday 22nd December, 2007

The Queen is a Fron fanDear Fron Male Voice Choir,

Her Majesty The Queen has commanded me to write and thank you, and all the members of the Fron Male Voice Choir, for their loyal greetings.

The CD Voices of The Valley Encore has gone into Her Majesty’s music collection, which will be played over Christmas at Sandringham. I will try to highlight track two, which you appropriately dedicated to Her Majesty and His Royal Highness.

Her Majesty also congratulates the choir on your sixtieth anniversary. I tried to obtain a preview of your calendar via the internet for Her Majesty, but was unfortunately blocked by Palace computer security, indicating that it must have been a fun calendar!

I hope you and the Fron Choir had a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year, and we look forward to your next successful album or starring roles within the next blockbuster film, which I would be keen to play for Her Majesty when available.

Yours sincerely,

Squadron Leader Andy Calame, Royal Air Force Equerry to Her Majesty The Queen.

Her Majesty our beloved Queen, is a lady who still thanks her subjects for the interest shown in her. She has a wonderful sense of humour but shows respect in all aspects. She will enjoy the choir calendar and what a wonderful charity to benefit from the money, raised.
May the choir experience great success in the future.
