Tributes have been paid to a Shropshire golfer who died after collapsing as he was about to tee off.
Mick Short, a member and ground marshall at The Shropshire Golf Club, Muxton, Telford, suffered a heart attack on Friday.
Staff and members went to the 70-year-old’s aid and an ambulance was called, but he could not be saved.
Mr Short, who lived in Donnington, leaves his wife Jean, 65, son Kevin and grandchildren Kelly-Marie, 21, and 20-year-old Kyle. His funeral will take place at Telford Crematorium on Wednesday.
Kevin Short, 45, head professional golfer at Newport’s Aqualate Golf Club, today paid tribute to his father, who worked as a firefighter at Donnington’s MoD base before retiring 10 years ago.
“He was probably one of the most kind-hearted and caring people you would ever meet,” he said. “He lived for his family. I’ve never known anyone who’s had a bad word to say about him.”

Sad news indeed. May I suggest that a defibrillator is purchased as a fitting memorial to this genetleman. Our local ambulance service can advise on the type of unit and training needed to operate the machine so if anyone else suffers a heart attack at the course early aid would be available. These machines are already in place in supermarkets and Telford town centre and help to save lives.
Mick was a gentleman. We moved into the area nearly 2 years ago and my wife started working in the Shropshire at that point. He always found time to take our little boy out in the golf buggy’s to show him the wildlife. He was Santa this year and amazed our boy by knowing his name a knowing what was in his “Santa Letter”.
He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
RIP Mick
Fond memories of happy days on the golf course Mick. RIP at the 19th
