OK everybody lets all pick a law and go out and break it, just because we do not like it. I would like to bet this brainless load of morons would be the first moaning as the country fell into a state of lawlessness but its OK as they consider themselves above the law

excellent news the hunting bill laws are unenforcible and hunts are trying to stay within this stupid law, ie hunt followers up early in the morning laying trails for the hounds and riders to follow the result is every one has a good gallop and the tradition of the meet etc continues with even more support from the public. in a strange way the government has cleaned up the hunting process and everyone except the most left wing townie is happy. advance Britannia and tally ho

Ow get a life, fox hunting is an English Tradition and will never be banned.

  17. andrew finch said:

lets get one thing sorted on here hunting with hounds is banned , they are how ever allowed to flush with two hounds and dispatch with gun ot bird of prey , they met on boxing day what is wrong with that ? its british tradition? they have every right too and have many supporters , i was unaware at the meet i went to of any fox being torn in too??, so what is the whingers on here problem ??? are they unaware hunting with hounds as the old days is banned ??, didnt they notice ??do they no something we that follow do not ?? is it a class issue ?? do they not like horses and red coats ?? lets face it the antis got there way in part for now, but at the same time killed there thursday to saturday sport of hounding thoses carrying out what what was legal then now they have nothing to do perhaps they should now take up a hobby the same people moaning about it on here have a problem with anything they see as a old fashioned class issue .

  18. john whiteman said:

Why do the do gooders never consider the fate of thousands of victims of a fox during its life span (many for amusement).I only wished they lived on magpies and squirrels .

  19. dd said:

what a load of rubbish about tradition!!!!! the slave trade was a tradition, shall we go back to that!? So was being hung, drawn, and quartered!!! Its traditional in some countries to throw Donkeys and goats out of buildings!!! you people talk about tradition are idiots! But oh no, because its GREAT BRITAIN this particular tradition is ok! You jokers, like I said before if Chavs, dole bums and the like decided that this was the sport for them it would be outlawed very quickly!

  20. dd said:

oh and one more thing…Fox Hunting is all about class let nots forget that.

  21. andrew finch said:

does dd stand for dumb and dumber ?? its banned in its old form why cant there be hunt meets whats it got to do with you?? if they stay with in the law ?? fox hunting has nothing to do with class, people who go on it come from all walks of life thats fact , i think the main issue is some appose the killing of the fox no matter how it is done , as for chaseing donkys bull figting etc thats other countrys traditions and nothing to do with me or any one else i do think the antis are unaware of the current laws with regards hunting of any animal if they were ofay with them they would as i have said have nothing to do on a weekend , as for dolites etc what a load of old crap .this was a hunt meet whats the problem ???

  22. Peter said:

John Whiteman - a fox hunts its prey from instinct alone. You do no one any good by attributing human characteristics such as cruelty or bloodlust to animals.

If, as they claim, the fox hunters are still managing to enjoy exercising their horses and hounds without the sick spectacle of seeing a live animal torn apart by dogs for the pleasure of at least some of those watching, then far from offering a reason to repeal the ban it simply shows that it is working and that the tales of hardship and job losses were nothing more than hysterical propaganda, which ironically detracted from some of the real issues facing rural communities, such as ‘farm gate’ prices and the profiteering of large supermarkets.

  23. andrew finch said:

of course people lost there jobs home etc , that was fact, not propaganda, at the end of the day they are working with in the law excersising the dogs use 2 to flush and shooting, a small part has had to change in the uk any way and they have every right in a free country to challenge the bill and repeal . with out the usuall over the top clap trap about being torn from limb or as one amusing one said once the hounds around 15 pounced after 5 minutes the fox emerged blooded and exhausted having fought of 15 hounds he then ran 20 miles at least before being trapped and slain ,
All sideS are prown to over the top propoganda thats life.

Bloodthirsty toffs. Pity these cretins have nothing better to do than chase a beautiful animal around the country to satisfy their neanderthal urges.

  25. Diana H said:

I am saddened by the emotional and ill informed comments of some of your readers. Expert opinion on animal welfare and wildlife management does not favour a ban on hunting, and the Government’s own independent inquiry, the Burns Inquiry concluded that that there was no evidence that hunting was any less humane than alternative methods of control.

  29. Katie said:

If the people complaining about the hunt came from farming and countryside backgrounds they would have nothing to complain about. They live in towns and cities and think foxes are cute - They have got it so wrong. Foxes have taken plenty of our newborn lambs over the years and if we dont keep hunting them, farmers will keep on loosing more lambs every year which results in lose of money. They are Vermin and we need to keep on top of them.
I support the hunt and always will.
Im glad the shropshire star gave time and space for the hunt again this year and hope they will keep on doing this for years to come.

  30. Sickened said:

As usual the pro hunt lobby are full of hypocrisy and still are unable to get their story straight, a read through these post will demonstrate this to the full. Some are saying there is no hunting because it is illegal, others saying there is, but we should look at what foxes do, the only ones we are missing are the lot that argue that there is hunting but it does nothing, because we never catch a fox.

As for Katie I can only assume you never talk to anyone in the countryside who is not in your social group. I along with many others who are totally against hunting with hounds for sport, I live in the countryside and in fact I know far more people in favour of the ban then against it, so please do not try and mislead with your inaccurate statements and try to blame town/city dwellers for the ban. Andrew Finch all that said I would be more than happy to come shooting or fishing with you, I am even happy to shoot foxes with you. I am just into killing them humanly, if there is a reason to kill them.

i am a horse rider of many years, and i would never hunt as i have too much respect for my horse. it is dangerous and as far as i’m concerned people that hunt do not care about their animnals jumping fixed fences. The only persons i know that are in favour of the hunt still think that they need to stock their house incase of war!!!!! Anyone that takes pleasure in an animal being ripped apart is less than human. that for a person that can ride rather than a toff that buys a push button hunter!!!!!

  34. Pete Low said:

Mr Finch, i can assure you i am not”uninformed” about whether it is civilised to hunt a fox until it is exhausted and then watch as it is ripped to shreds. I can form my own opinion thanks. If foxes are such a problem why have we seen footage of fox cubs being fed and “reared” only then to be hunted.I for one am not fooled by the transparent propoganda pedalled by the pro hunt lobby. People hunt because they enjoy seeing an animal suffer. By the way,im glad i dont need to inflict cruelty on an animal to raise my self esteem.

All this basically comes down to a bunch of do gooder townies putting their two pence in, as far as i can see what doesnt effect them should be left alone.. oh shall we ban fishing or shooting? Never mind all these people telling me what to do why dont they start worring about things that matter to them.I have marched though London a number of times been to Brighton and Scottland and i am prepared to do this again i truley believe that Hunting will be back to the old ways very very soon.

Er, yes David it’s called the NATURAL FOOD CHAIN, what is NOT natural is the hunting of animals for sport.

Many hunting people, as shown during the demonstrations in London, choose to dress their toddlers and children in t-shirts that say B**ll***ks to Blair! As i,m sure their little children do not hold major political views it shows just what kind of people they are. If they will stoop to abusing their own children this way - then anything else vulnerable will just be fair game!!

why do people seem to think these foxes are shot for no reason!!! i take it you dont what the foxes do to live stock by killing lambs/ chickens etc they dont do it to eat them! well done shropshire star for keeping the tradition going!

  45. spindrift said:

I must admit I’ve never seen a hunt, and don’t wish to partake in one. I don’t know for sure if foxes are endangered, or are vermin, or if they are bred for hunting, or whether it’s class hatred, or if average Joe hunts or not.

I have seen Beagling on the hills near Mitchells Fold Circle though, and a it was one of the more majestic sights I’ve seen.

  46. Andy Pandy said:

The hunts say that they are not killing foxes and that they are abiding within the law! I’m sure nobody would object to the tradional displays if they were sure that the hunts were honest. Or are they dishonest people, slaughtering when nobodies looking? The law is the law, wether we agree with it or not. It is quite appalling that hunts condone offensive shirts on little children, throwing powder in the houses of Parliament, kicking television crews and violent protests. The hunts, realistically, serve little or no purpose other than as a club. You do not hear of farmers going bankrupt because the local hunt is no longer catching foxes. Indeed blue tongue, foot and mouth and flooding have a greater impact in farming communities than hunting. Farmers are quite capable of utilising their knowledge of land management/animal husbandry without red coats and horses. I have heard of no cases of livery yards closing down because of the ban. The majority of hunting people, according to the magazines, are professionals and able to take every weekend off, farming - on the other hand, does’nt stop every Tuesday and Saturday morning. However, it should be remembered that many professional bodies take a dim view of their members having a criminal conviction and drag hunting provides decent jumping opportunities without breaking the law.

  48. ludlow rocks said:

It’s quite simple “hunters”, you are, most fortunately, in a distinct minority.

Oh and DO stop harping on about foxes eating livestock and chickens, that’s like having a go at humans for eating meat. It’s the FOOD CHAIN for goodness sake!

Didn’t you ever learn about the food chain at school? I’m sure it was part of the basic curriculum.

In this day and age, seeing people stuffed uncomfortably into red jackets chasing after blood is, quite frankly, an absolute embarrassment.

  49. DAVID EVANS said:

WE DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT YOUR WAY OF LIFE. SO DONT GO ON CHIRPING ABOUT OUR WAY.I ENJOY KILLING FOXES RABBITS AND ANY VIRMIN AND NO LAW IN THIS LAND HAS SAID I CANT KILL THEM.IT IS STILL LEGAL TO SHOOT AND SNARE ANY VIRMIN AS LONG AS WE HAVE PERMISION FROM THE LAND OWNER NOT LIKE THE ANTIS THAT TRSPASS AFTER THE MEN IN RED TO CAUSE TROUBLE AND GET ARRESTED.THINK ABOUT IT.

  50. Andy Pandy said:

    Mr Evans,

According to the Countryside Alliance and Central News, there is footage of huntsmen kicking film crews and of hunt supporters being very violent towards broadcasters at a meet. The hunt mistakenly believed that the news crew were sabatours. A foot follower in a vehicle also shadowed the film crews vehicle and attempted to intimidate the occupants. It gave the impression that the hunt had something to hide. This was broadcast on the the news.
Why do you think that the police dislike the hunting fraternity so much that they would “club” you and others? They see protests every day in London, Birmingham and yes, even Shrewsbury. None of the students recently protesting over the Sixth Form College relocation were “clubbed” by police! But perhaps they realised that the law also applied to them and it was in their best intrests to abide by it.
Would small children really have enjoyed a day of demonstrations in London? Shouting, swearing, violence and injuries!! I’m sure most of them, had they been consulted, would have preferred a day at Alton Towers!
I think you’ll find the “powder incident” at the Houses of Parliament originated in the frustration of certain people because their hobby has been curtailed.
As for “your way of life” I’m sure we have very similar lives. All our basic needs are met - usually by Sainsburys or Asda (or do you eat the vermin you kill or wear it as a coat? No you throw it away.) I do not damage anything or anyone, (even trying to cut down on my carbon footprint!) I am a little more selective about my hobbies and a little further up the food chain than neanderthal man. People do not have to hunt animals in order to survive, it does not have to be a way of life. It is a concious decision made because your pleasure is found in being part of a club and enjoying the activitities within that organisation.
I look foward to the day when hunters make a positive contibution to society and throw away their Barbour jackets and Hunter wellies and start wearing the rat, fox, rabbit skins that they procure.

David Evans you are wrong about LACS killing deer on their land ,the deer were killed by the said Geff Hayes and the photos were taken by pro hunters to try and discredit LACS. As for saying you enjoy killing foxes and other wild life that speaks for itself. You mention snaring a particulary cruel activity as i know of a pet cat who suffered injuries through this although this wouldn’t bother your tiny brain.

  58. Judi Hewitt said:

Just a footnote to all the ignorant amongst you - my sister keeps free range poultry in the Lincolnshire countryside, and the only bird she’s ever lost (in the last seventeen years) was a tiny hen to a pine martin. Also, foxes are not vermin, they breed only once a year (that’s far less than your domestic dog or cat - let alone rats).
I also know people who keep horses and detest the hunt, so not all ‘horsey’ people are like the cold Steph, who obviously has selective compassion.
You David Evans might do well to take a spelling course before submitting your ridiculous lies.
But then if you were too educated you might be dangerous.

  59. ludlow rocks said:

‘annoyed’ - congratulations on completely embarrassing yourself and your ‘arguement’.

You remark “well said fred” and yet you seem to have such a terrible attitude that perhaps it is YOUR life in which things are not good.

Oh and most folk with an ounce of common sense would not read the food chain comment LITERALLY as i’m sure you’re aware it relates also to ANIMAL INSTINCT and the fact that foxes are OBVIOUSLY inclined to attack lower down in the food chain.

    Dear me…

  60. ludlow rocks said:

Um hellooooo, if we’re protesting AGAINST fox hunting and thus animal cruelty how on EARTH do you fathom we “could hurt the horses”, I’m sure you do far more harm to yours.

  61. Judi Hewitt said:

Forgot to ask the Shropshire Star - Why are there only pics of riders and people patting the dogs? Where are your pics of the ugly terrier-men doing their obscene digging out as well as intimidating those who find their cruelty unacceptable? Why not show pics that portray the true picture of hunting. Why not show an exhausted fox with its tongue hanging out and its eyes protruding just before it gets bitten to death by a pack of dogs. Now that would show the public what a grotesque bunch of selfish lawless people extremist hunters are, and how they should be snubbed by the press, not glorified.

  62. Bob said:

This is a great debate. I’ve never hunted, but I know the fox isn’t a cuddly creature. There are two sides to every story and since I’m largely ignorant about living in the country, I’m inclined to say let them hunt if they want to. As for the anti-hunt brigade, most are just ignorant band wagon hoppers. Anti war, anti facsist, anti hunt, anti state - they’re all the same, blinkered zealots and some of the most narrow minded hypocrites you could ever meet. They need to travel to realise that there are bigger and better things to devote their energies to, what about the plight of homelessness in this country for a start? Ah, but that’s only a human tragedy and no where near so exciting as class war, eh? And what about the mink? The fur trade was a separate issue, but the stupidity of animal rights activists in releasing captive mink into the wild was boundless. Mink have no natural predators here and you can always tell when one is in the area by the absence of birds and the carcasses of their young and of fish scattered about, not eaten - just killed. That’s where over-zealousness and ignorance get us.

  63. Judi Hewitt said:

Bob says he’s never hunted, but says he knows the fox is not cuddly.
Bob I very much doubt anyone would find you cuddly, but I wouldn’t want to set a pack of baying, hungry wolves after you to rip you apart. Nor would I want to knock down your door and drag you and your little ones out to be shot and thrown to the pack.
This is the reality of hunting. Unlike people, foxes don’t kill their prey every single day.
Plus in this age of technology, don’t you think it’s more than a little suspect that nobody has ever filmed a fox attacking a lamb, even though they sometimes hang around a field of sheep giving birth, not unlike jackals, but for foxes it’s mainly the after birth they’re after. A healthy ewe will be more than a match for a fox.
Foxes are omnivors. This means they will eat a variety of foods. They can consume a vast amount of garden worms.
They also eat rodents, rabbits (when they catch them), insects, amphibians and berries.
Also Bob, don’t you know that stray domestic dogs (which breed far more than any fox - the fox only breeds once a year) accounts for more lamb deaths than any other creature, aside from negligent farmers?
Above all Bob, don’t insult us by trying to make out you’re not pro-hunt - your email fools nobody.
Alas, ignorance abounds in the pro-hunt community. They have no arguments, only insults.
