Readers reassured on holidays

ferry.jpgUp to 40,000 holidaymakers, thousands of whom had their Christmas plans wrecked when tour firm Travelscope went into administration, will get full refunds, it was confirmed today.

Joint administrator Paul Clark confirmed today that full refunds would be issued from the two authorities the company was bonded under.

Customers travelling by air will have their losses paid by the Civil Aviation Authority. Those journeying by other means will be able to apply to the Association of British Travel Agents.

Both bodies have been provided with all passengers’ names and addresses and booking details and claim forms will be sent out in the “near future”, according the Travelscope website.

Abta spokeswoman Frances Tuke said that people who had been given Travelscope holidays via a travel agent were being offered alternatives today.

“Where possible those who have booked through a third party are being put on different trips. If people booked direct through Travelscope that is not so.”

A number of holidays and excursions handled by Travelscope Holidays have been booked through Shropshire Star - Star Readers.

Travelscope is ATOL and ABTA registered and therefore all financial commitments made by customers are fully protected and all customers should receive a full refund.

A representative from the Shropshire Star - Star Readers or the Administrators of Travelscope Holidays will contact anyone who has booked a holiday with further details.
