Wolves look to Europe

Wolves have gone global in their bid to strengthen in the January transfer window.

Boss Mick McCarthy has cast his net across Europe to land reinforcements for his Wolves squad and is ready to making his first major continental signing since taking over at Molineux.

Wolves have identified targets in Scandanavia and France as they look to make January additions who will be ready to play in the Premiership - if the Molineux men make it this season.

And that provides the clearest indication yet that owner Steve Morgan is ready to back the boss heavily in a bid to secure top flight football next season.

So far McCarthy has only been interested in signing players based in Britain or Ireland, but with Morgan’s extra financial clout they are confident that they can bring in players from abroad who are capable of making a big impact in the Championship.

Despite Wolves publicly playing down the prospect of January “quick fix” there are clear indications they are preparing for a busy month of transfer activity.

While the club are looking to the Continent for new faces, they are also believed to be pondering a £600,000 bid for Colchester’s promising left-back George Elokobi.
