Jamie is Bucks’ midfield solution

Jamie VermiglioMidfielder Jamie Vermiglio could return to give AFC Telford United a timely pre-Christmas boost.

The Cheshire-based teacher has been out since suffering soft tissue damage to the rib area during the 4-0 league defeat at Barrow last month.

But he is finally on the road to recovery and, while he was ruled out of today’s FA Trophy home tie with Blyth Spartans, boss Rob smith is hopeful that he could return against Vauxhall Motors next Saturday.

“Jamie trained on Thursday night and he looked good, so he’s in the running for next week,” said Smith.

“I’ve got two midfielders suspended next week. Carl Rodgers and Chris Cornes are both banned, so it will be a big boost if Jamie is fit.

“He’s getting there slowly and we’ve had to take it day by day because he’s been very sore.”

Centre-back Indy Khela could also return in that clash with Vauxhall Motors, with Smith reporting that the stress fracture of his shin is healing well.

The defender has not played since the 1-0 defeat at home to Kettering more than a month ago, but is now close to full fitness.

* Telford have signed a new three-year sponsorship deal with Simmonds Transport that will see the Halesfield-based company have their branding displayed on the Learning Centre on the East Terrace at the New Bucks Head.

Bucks chairman Lee Carter said: “We are really delighted to have Simmonds on board. The team at Simmonds have become really big supporters of the club and we look forward to a long and positive relationship with them.”
