Former England and Wolves striker Steve Bull was among the first people to take a look round Bridgnorth’s reopened Comrades Club.Bully was the special guest at the official opening of the Listley Street members’ club last night.
The venue has been renamed HQ Sports Bar after being taken over by Bridgnorth Town footballer Steve Broome and his firm SPB Properties.
It had been closed since May 2006 due to a lack of members. But its new owners are optimistic they can breath new life into the club.
Mr Broome said his aim was to bring the club into the 21st century and attract new members. He said: “We are delighted with the response we have had so far. The snooker tables were packed all night. There is still a lot of work to do, though.”
Mr Broome had spent 18 months thrashing out a deal for the club, which he took over in October.
He has given it a major overhaul and modernisation. The new club has plasma screen TVs, four full-size snooker tables, games area, dart board, outside smoking area and a new bar.
