Filmed in Shropshire

John Cleese, who starred in Clockwise (picture courtesy PA Archive)

Clockwise, the 1986 comedy of errors about the hilarious consequences of being late, stars John Cleese (pictured above in Fawlty Towers) as a school headmaster trying to get to a teaching conference. Much of the movie is filmed in the West Midlands, with Menzies High School in West Bromwich and King Edward’s School in Edgebaston featuring heavily in the opening scenes. But the film also featured Shrewsbury and Much Wenlock, which was used for the telephone box scene in which Cleese meets an old flame.

now living in Canada, I had to enter a recent competition on the national Entertainment TV show which was asking a question about the movie(atonement) and offering an all expenses trip to Shropshire.. there were plenty of links to the county. I had then to show my wife Stokesay castle as well on the web too. will hopefully be winning my way back home in the new year !!!

Don’t forget the 1950 film version of local writer Mary Webb’s Gone to Earth …. and John Cleese’s hilarious Clockwise, both filmed in and around Much Wenlock.

I remember very clearly “Take Me Home” being filmed, much of it was done in Sandbrook , Ketley and I seem to recall my [ now deceased ] mother`s bugalow appearing several times.

Does show how beautiful some parts of Shropshire are. Shame about the blot on the landscape Telford has become.

Roadrunner refers to “Take Me Home”: I am still having intensive counselling sessions in order to overcome the night terrors I have about Keith Barron appearing at my window.

An episode of Dalzial and Pascoe was filmed in North Shropshire, near Shotton Hall. I watched the filming from my house over the fields.
I now live in Canada so it nice to see some parts of home on the TV

Another one to add Mary Webb Precious Bane at Pitchford Hall when the Colthursts’ were in residence. I am thinking there was a exciting thriller murder mystery perhaps one of your readers might remember what it was called based in the late thirties.
