Villagers returned home from work last night to discover a crime scene surrounding shops in Drayton Road. The bodies of two men were discovered at a flat above one of the shops shortly before 10am yesterday. Police have refused to say which flat the bodies were found in.
However, Shawbury Fish Bar, which is in a parade of shops on the main road, has been sealed off since the discovery.
Forensic officers scoured the scene yesterday, as news of the deaths spread through the village.
Residents living in the area said they did not know the names of the victims but believed they were the two men who ran the fish bar and the Indian restaurant next door.It is understood the men were in their late 20s.
The two men were described by people in the village as “very polite, pleasant and friendly”. It is understood they were relations of the woman who operated the two businesses.
On-lookers said she was seen leaving the scene with police yesterday.
Residents said the family had run the chip shop for more than five years and took over the takeaway next door more recently.
Steve Affleck, who lives in Shawbury and works in Telford, said he knew the family quite well but not by name. He said the two men lived above the shop.
“They were absolutely lovely people and I can’t think what could have happened that makes any sense.
“If it was murder I can’t imagine it was anyone from this area,” he said.
Will Taylor, from Shawbury, said the men were “nice enough and quite quiet” and used to save chip orders for him.
One 18-year-old, who did not want to be named, said he had taken a work experience placement at the shop about three years ago.
“They were nice blokes. If you knew them and made the effort they were talkative,” he said.
“When I worked there they said they lived above the shop.”
Niall Taylor, a student at Walford and North Shropshire College in Wem, lives close to the row of shops in Drayton Road.
He said: “I just came back from college and saw all the police. It’s awful. I didn’t hear anything odd at all on the night.”
Police officers, a van and several cars remained at the scene throughout the night.
