Wolves matchwinner Karl Henry is convinced his Molineux team-mates will overcome their goal struggle to strike for the Premiership this season.Henry’s 55th minute effort against Preston brought Wolves another three points to move them third, two behind Albion and three off leaders Watford.
Mick McCarthy’s side, struggling to raise their goal ratio much above one per game, are being propped up a terrific defensive record which has brought five successive clean sheets.
But Henry reveals the momentum and conviction that this team will go on to achieve their promotion dream has never been stronger in the Wolves dressing room.
“We’ve put in some good performances this season to take us up to third, but we are also able to grind out a result,” he said.
“On Wednesday, we weren’t pretty at all against Colchester - we’re capable of putting in better performances than that.
“But the main thing is three points. There is a momentum here, we have one defeat in 13 games, which is a great run and we want to continue that.
“There’s definitely a feeling in the dressing room that we can achieve something. Saturday’s was maybe a game we would have lost last season but the manager’s instilled a self-belief and a work ethic in the team which is phenomenal.”
And Henry paints a picture of a buoyant Wolves dressing room - even if he is currently the butt of much mickey-taking following the publication last week of the team’s first pin-up calendar for charity.
He added: “I am on the calendar unfortunately, but I think the photographer has stitched me up.
“Mine’s terrible, the rest of the lads are doing weights and I’m posing on the phone. They look beefed up and I look a bit of a skinny Mr July!
“But the banter is all part of having a laugh as a team. There’s a good spirit, we all get on well and do things together.
“There’s a good feeling around the place. The manager’s not too big to keep himself distant from the players.
“We’ve got a lot of young players at the club and there is a need for experience. A lot of young players, me included when I first started, wondered how important experience was. Now that I’m a little bit older with a few more games under my belt, I realise there are things I can do and that we’re better equipped. We really do believe we can do something this year.”
