An epileptic man and his wife had to be rescued by firefighters in Shrewsbury after an arson attack on their home.
Adam and Laura Freestone barricaded themselves in their maisonette in Sundorne Road after they discovered the blaze in the porch.
The couple today thanked the anonymous woman who ran into their home to warn them about the fire, before then getting trapped herself.
Police confirmed they are treating the fire as arson after being called to the scene shortly before 7pm yesterday.
Three fire crews from Shrewsbury and the incident commander also attended, along with an ambulance which was on stand-by.
Mrs Freestone said it had been a terrifying ordeal and the panic of discovering the blaze had triggered her husband to have a seizure.
She said: “When he went to do the bins he thought there was a funny light through the door at the bottom of the stairs.
“Then he realised it was a fire and he shouted to me to call the fire brigade.
“We had to wait until they had doused the flames before we could get down and out of the door. It was very scary.”

What I am sure many people will not realise or appreciate is the trauma such as you have experienced with your arson attack may well have an impact on your well being. God willing it won’t. Take great care the both of you.
