Staff working late in Shrewsbury’s Carphone Warehouse have made a discovery that could see a new ghost added to the town’s long list of paranormal residents.
Robert Medley, 24, was taking some catalogues down into “the dungeon” basement at the Pride Hill store when he encountered what he believes may have been a ghost.
Mr Medley was working late on Thursday when he made the trip down into part of the old Shrewsbury Town walls which can still be clearly seen under many shops on Pride Hill.
He said: “Suddenly I felt a massive chill and I thought it was a draft from the emergency exit. I was looking at the wall and there was something between me and the wall obscuring my view. I dropped the box of catalogues and ran out.
“I am so scared I do not like to go down there on my own, which is a problem because the toilet is down there - now I have to go down to McDonalds.
“It is the old castle walls and we call it the dungeon, I am sure it is where people used to get hanged, one of my colleagues once saw something on the stairs but this is a first for me.”
Shrewsbury is believed to be one of the most haunted regions in the UK and regularly hosts ghost walks led by Town Crier Martin Wood.
He said: “Who the actual ghost is that is in the Carphone Warehouse I cannot be certain but I would like to get in there and do a scan of the basement and get an idea of what is going on.”

I used to work at this store and there is definately something there. In the Cellar there is a dungeon that also has a section of the old walls cut out. You can go right in there and there is old hooks on the wall possibly where they used to hang meat. A very scary feeling in this store. almost as scary as there sales staff.

Robert Medley used be scared of my Dad’s office and thought it was haunted. I see a pattern here from the man with the one beat!
I can not explain what i saw that frightful night. All i can say is visions of terror are etched on my brain…………I feel violated.
Ha ha great stuff, that is quite possibly the cheesiest picture I have ever seen, can’t believe they put in the part about you using the macdonalds toilets either!, this has made my week, of all the dubious stories you have told this is probabally the best and to get it in the paper as well is just magic.
I USED TO WORK AT WHSMITHS AT THE TOP OF PRIDE HILL, ND 2 OF MY COLLEAGUES SAW SOMETHING IN THE UPSTAIRS STOCKROOM ONE TIME. THERE IS A SECRET ROOM WITH A FIREPLACE IN IT, AND THEY BOTH SAID THEY SAW A FIGURE OF A WOMAN SITTING NEXT TO IT. ON LATE NIGHT OPENINGS YOU COULD GET QUITE FREAKED OUT IF YOU HAD TO GO UPSTAIRS TO THE OFFICES, ALWAYS A SPOOKY FEELING UP THERE. I THINK MANY OF THE BUILDINGS ON PRIDE HILL PROBABLY HAEV SOME SORT OF EERINESS ABOUT THEM, GIVEN HOW OLD THE BUILDINGS ARE AND THE HISTORY OF THE AREA.
