Shrewsbury teenager Melanie Nakhla and her girl group All Angels were due to give their first public performance of one of the songs from their new album today as they officially opened a Christmas fair in the town. The group’s new CD, Into Paradise, is released on Monday but fans in Shrewsbury were being given the sneak-peak with the performance of the song Sound of Silence as part of the Shrewsbury Abbey Christmas Fair.
The event was also due to give people a chance to meet the girls and hear a preview of the album which includes cover versions of well-known hits.
Organisers of the event have previously described the group’s appearance as a “coup”. All Angels were also singing the song, Silent Night, which is from their old album. The fair features a variety of stalls selling handmade silk, wooden and woollen crafts, and other potential Christmas gifts.
Alexandra Lawrie, 26, from Perranporth, Cornwall, was recently named as the group’s new angel after impressing judges from Classic FM and Universal Music with her wide range of vocals.
She will perform Ave Verum Corpus with the platinum-selling group at St James’s Church in Piccadily on November 28.
Melanie, 18, said today: “I’m excited and really happy to be back in Shrewsbury, and particularly to be performing here at the Abbey, because it is somewhere I have grown up being around.
“It is really nice I can share this with all the other girls because we all get on really well.”
