We lived in Telford for 12 years and both kids were born at Shrewsbury Hospital. We now live at the end of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula 30 minutes drive north of Auckland, New Zealand. Summer is round the corner and we’re 5 minutes from the Pacific ocean. Loving every minute of it but could someone please send us some Walkers crisps!!

Hello just on my nightly read of shropshire star news thought I;d join your army of expats.
Many years ago lived in Far Vallens Hadley. For 33years lived near Whitchurch until 4years ago when we retired to Co.Wexford R.O.Ireland.
Love Ireland live near the sea but of course there is often somethink you miss POTATOES big time.
Have family in Newport Ellesmere St.Martins and near OSwestry.
Visit at least once a year.

I was born at Frodesley in the 1960s and grew up at Brompton, near Atcham until the 1980s when I moved to London. I am from a farming family and have many family ties in farming in North, West and South Shropshire. I now live in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where I moved to pursue a post-grad. degree after a career in the art business, to which I still consult. I am married with 2 children. I make regular trips home to visit friends and family. I miss them and the Shropshire countryside.

Folks may remember Edges bread shop on High Street and my dad Syd Edge. we ended up in Nottingham but still follow the shrews, it’s the result that I look for before anything else and look forward to your short articles on the internet about Shropshire and Shrewsbury town.

Lived in Shrewsbury as a baby during the WW2. Went to St Michaels school then the Priory School. Joined the RAF for 12 years. My parents moved to Ditherington in early 70’s. Emigrated to Canada. in ‘69 After 10 years my job with IBM transferred me to Rochester Minnesota. My work, including the RAF tours, caused me to visit 54 countries. Latest being Thailand and China. Retired June 2006 and moved to Las Vegas. Warm weather suits me, plus all the amenities. I wish all my Shrewsbury friends all the very best.

I lived in Albrighton from 1964 to the mid 70’s. My son was born in Albrighton.
It was a village when I lved there and although its grown, it retains
its village atmosphere. My memories are warm and I was the President of the Young Wives club during that time.
I now live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Born Shrewsbury 1939, joined RAF in 1959, travelled the world, now settled in West Oxfordshire. Shrewsbury town supporter for 61 years, father was Frank Edwards (Mr Bowls) 1937-1981. Miss Crown Green Bowls. Love the new Stadium, recently wrote articles in the End of Era and Farewell Gay Meadow books.
Grandsons love the town and their football visits. Super place with great memories.

I served in the army for 25 years the last eight of which were spent at COD Donnington,and as SPSI at 52 Coy RAOC Ta. I left the army in 1983 and moved to Newport and then moved again to Crudginton.
We left the UK in July 2002 and now live in the beautiful and tranquil region of the south Charente in france.
Our son still lives and works in telford, and of course we keep up o date with the current state of affaires through your excellent site, keep up the good work.

My husband Ken was born in Hadley I was born in Wellington we lived in Oakengates for the past 25 years we now live on the Costa Blanca . We miss our two children and our 6 grandchildren and one on the way very much , we dont miss the weather. We try to come over as often as possible , we miss reading the local paper, proper beer and a good indian take away.
We like living here pace of life more relaxed.

Lived for many years in Shrewsbury and drove a Midland Red bus round Telford for more years than I care to remember. Decided I wanted my life back, left everything & went to Africa. Now settled in Guadalajara, Mexico, with my Mexican husband and I’m a professor in a university here. Miss fish & chips! Decent beer too. But don’t misss the weather : )

Born in Cyprus to a mum from Gobowen and a dad in the raf.Spent years jetting round to various stations before finally winding up at Kingsland Grange in Shrewsbury then Ludlow Grammar; about 8 years altogether in my formative years, and Salop became the closest I could call roots. Now time has moved on and I’ve found myself in Wiltshire. Still go to stay with friends in Coton hill and watch STFC and just relish the most beautiful place I know: Shropshire. Do I count as an expat or just a hobo though?

Hi, born and grew up in Bayston Hill; Priory Boys Grammar 1962-9. I’ve lived in the Swansea and Neath areas of South Wales since 1972.
I supported Shrewsbury Town throughout the 60s, and then as many odd games as poss ever since - esp. away games vs Swans! My son is a Swans supporter, so we have “interesting” discussions on the way to and from those games!

Lancashire born but spent two years at RAF Cosford from 1954 and loved the county. Now live in San Diego, CA. We visit “The Marches” for three months each year (have a holiday home near Welshpool) and still enjoy real ale at The Three Fishes in Shrewsbury and similar places. Pork pies and smoked Mackrel are also top of our list along with Fish & Chips. We think there are some really good pubs/restaurants in a beautiful county which still seems to uphold The British way of life when too many places in the UK seem sadly to be going to heck in a hand basket. Long live the countryside.

Came back to shropshire for four weeks , closed every thing and moved here. Miss bacon and and eggs at my friends house, a cold day and some carp fishing. All my friends recommend staying away from the Uk permanently. What a shame that home is really no longer a place for a British person.
Now have several businesses on the island and am living the dream I never thought possible.
Love to read the SS if only to remind myself that only memory is idyllic and that the reality of the UK is very different.

We live in Napier, the Art Deco capital of the world. Great climate and even greater wine! Have just visited family and friends in Shropshire, but New Zealand is now home.

my husband michael and,i were both born in shrewsbury, grew up on the grange the heart of shrewsbury we lived in salop untill 1998 when we moved to near sarlat, the dordogne ,france. wego back twice a year, my mother Ilene price lives with us, we have two children that have finished their education here both have since left home and have done exceptionally well for them selves , but we all miss our home town of shrewsbury,good job we can read the star via internet

I was born and attended school in Shropshire leaving in the late ’50s to work in continental Europe - Greece, Austria and Switzerland. I became a mountain guide and ski instructor and worked at Mt. Cook and Westland national parks in New Zealand.
Moved to western Canada in the early seventies, where I still spend much time in the mountain environment. My wife is Canadian and we have a son and daughter.
Nice to hear of other Salopians stories and adventures.

When I arrived, even people from England did not know where Shropshire was. They certainly know now and we wish we could have some of your water.
Looks like a few more Salopians have joined me in WA, to become Sandgropers.
I missed the pubs, but they have all burnt down, I missed the open spaces, but they have been built on. I do miss the people I knew, but they seem to be passing away. I do not miss the cold and wet weather. But ask anyone here, I am still a Salopian.
Ok, Christmas in the middle of summer is rather strange.

Family was based around Market Drayton, moved to Wellington in 1952. Apprenticed in Newport 1958-63. Worked in Gloucester and Leighton Buzzard before emigrating to Regina, Saskatchewn in 1967. Moved to St. Thomas, Ontario in 1969 and still in the area. Have been checking Shropshire news on/off for 5/6 years. Still have a soft spot for the sheep country about half way up on the left.

Currently working just south (80kM) south of Hassi Masseoud in Algeria, deep in the Sahara Desert.
My mother was born in Madeley (Jones) and I still have relatives there. I myself now live in Dawley local to the Town Park and love the place. Looking forward to travelling back in a few days.

I lived at Montford Bridge with my grandparents, Caroline & John Green in the early 1940’s. He was the local Postman. I stayed there after the war with my parents and when I married a policeman we lived there until we migrated to Australia in 1965. I live in a small suburb called Golden Bay in Western Australia. My last visit to Shrewsbury was in 2005. There have been many changes to Shrewsbury and Montford Bridge since I lived there.

In my heart, I am Salopian, born of a World War II war bride from Shrewsbury who came to America aboard the Queen Mary in 1946. My sister was born in Shrewsbury, and we both are fortunate enough to return fairly frequently to walk the shuts and the alley-ways, and to immerse ourselves in our family’s past, and in all that is best about Shropshire!

Lived in Shawbury for over twenty years and grew up there. I completed my RN training at the Royal Shrewsbury hospital in 1984 and came to Long Beach California in 1987. I met my hsband here, who is from Dorset and also a nurse. I am still home sick and really miss the pubs and good music; and the shopping, but the money is very good here.

I was born at Shifnal in 1958 as my RAF father was stationed near by. My grandparents, Jim & Peg Quinn lived at 14 Round Hill Green Coton Hill SHrewsbury since 1947 as now do the rest of my mother’s family (Pat Quinn who was born in Frankwell in 1936). I spent many a holiday at Coton Hill in the 60& 70s.
I would love to email anyone who remembers Shrewsburyin the 60s or who knew my grandparents, my Mother (Patricia Quinn) or perhaps my Uncle Reg who lives in Monkmoor or Jean & Michael Edwards at Coton Hill.

First came to Shrewsbury in 1980’s when I met my 1st wife.I was in RAF and eventually was posted to RAF Shawbury so she could be near her elderley father.My kids were born at RSH in 1992 and when I left RAF we moved to Radbrook Green,where I lived until Oct 07.After my divorce 4 years ago I met my new wife 2 years ago. She lived in Telford with her youngest daughter.After much thought we moved to Orehuela Costa, Spain, with our pet dogs and cats last October, and now enjoy the sunshine(even in the middle of winter.

I live in Jakarta, Indonesia. I grew up in Shrewsbury and since leaving in 1985 have lived in Bromsgrove and Bicester in the UK. I moved overseas to Jakarta in 1992, then Singapore, Hong Kong for 8 years and back to Jakarta in 2002 where we’ve now settled running our own small companies. We always look forward to our family holiday to Shropshire every summer to catch up with family and friends. Shropshire is a very special part of the world, but I don’t miss the winter weather.

My grandparents lived in All Stretton and I was living in Shrewsbury (Radbrook) when I emigrated to Ausralia in 1981. I worked as a RN at the Copthore Hospital.
I still have some distant family in Shropshire and so keep in touch.
As I get older I get more homesick and have just been back for a short visit and found it so hard to settle back in Sydney.
I really enjoy reading the Shropshire Star each week.

Live in southern Spain in the Cadiz province . Born in Wolverhampton one of eight lived in St Georges with family and then all over Telford worked at Sankeys and Walkers. Love my life in Spain so laid back, what do I miss nothing, but the family but keep in constant touch its not far you know, Renting out flats in the house now and opening the gallery soon.
