Councillors are calling for parking restrictions near a busy Oswestry junction amid fears that someone could be knocked over. Councillors are concerned about the junction of Oswald’s Well Lane and Upper Brook Street.
They agree that double yellow lines should be put in place near the junction along Trefonen road because people park on the corner of the junction, reducing visibility for those crossing.
“Someone is going to get knocked over if nothing is done because it’s so hard to see what is coming with the cars parked on the corner of the junction,” said Councillor John Evans during yesterday’s development control meeting of the town council.
He said if double yellow lines were in place, people would think twice about whether to park there because it would be an offence to do so.
However, Councillor Betty Gull suggested to fellow councillors that opting for the council’s white lines in the first instance would be an almost immediate solution.
She said: “It is a longer process to get double yellow lines in place by going through the different procedures so the immediate solution for the short term would be white lines.”
Councillors agreed to ask Shropshire County Council to address the situation by implementing white lines, while looking into getting double yellow lines in place.
