Leading scorer Dave Hibbert is winning his battle to be fit for Shrewsbury Town’s home clash with Barnet this weekend.
The 21-year-old missed out on a place in the FA Cup defeat at Walsall last Saturday with the niggling hamstring problem which has troubled him in recent weeks.
But he was to due to take his place back in training today, with a view to being fit for Town’s return to League action this weekend.
Town’s medical staff will, however, continue to monitor Hibbert in an attempt to ensure the forward isn’t continually troubled by the problem in the future.
“It’s not actually a hamstring injury,” said head of physiotherapy Rachel Greenley.
“It’s a bit non-specific but Dave is a tall lad who puts a big load on his back. If he gets pain from that, its the hamstrings where he feels it.
“We have had the specialist in and he went for a scan yesterday which we are waiting for the results for.
“He has been having various treatments to ease it a bit but hopefully now we can put something long-term in place so that he remains effective through games.
“But he will be back in training today and it shouldn’t force him to miss any more games.”
That will come as a huge relief to manager Gary Peters who has seen the summer recruit from Preston become the focal point of Town’s attacking play this season, notching seven goals to date.
Meanwhile, defender Darran Kempson remains a doubt for the weekend with an ankle infection.
“There was a stage when Darran couldn’t walk on that foot but he’s improving,” added Greenley.
“He is seeing the doctor today and hopefully he will back in training in the next few days, although I’m not sure he will be ready for the weekend.”
Midfielder Jimmy Ryan is facing a battle to play first-team football again this year.
The former Liverpool youngster is currently troubled with a knee problem, although it is expected he will be back in training in the next 48 hours.
But Ryan will be unavailable for Shrewsbury from the end of November until the start of January anyway because of the gap between the end of his third month loan spell from Liverpool and the start of his permanent deal when the transfer window reopens.

Totally agree.
No negative comments until the lads have a go against Barnet on Saturday…..lets get behind them
I wouldn’t want to be behind them! I bet Garners well fed up of being behind the team the amount of cover they’ve given him recently!
I remember the day when Arthur Rowley, Blah blah blah!!!! 6th in the old second division, hattrick by the boy Grifiths against Man city, Peter Dolby, jumpers for goalposts.
