Mark Selby, who reached the final of this year’s world championship, has offered to put a dozen Shropshire Star readers through their paces this month, giving them tips on their cue action and ways of improving their technique.

It’s part of the build-up to the Maplin UK Championship - the second biggest event in the annual snooker calendar - which is coming to the International Centre in Telford on December 8.

Midlands-based cueman Selby, 24, who is ranked the fifth best snooker player in the world, is also a top-class pool player - he is a former winner of the world eight-ball pool championship.

He will be taking time out to work with our winners at the session at the Maplin store in Telford town centre, on November 28, before launching his bid to unseat Peter Ebdon as reigning UK champion in the contest.
