Was it a foul? That’s the question on the lips of AFC Telford fans - and manager Rob Smith - after the side’s controversial match against Kettering at the New Bucks Head.

An incident after 40 minutes of Saturday’s game saw Telford denied a vital goal as they took on one of the Blue Square North’s top sides.

Smith, who was red carded after arguing with officials over the decision, remains adamant that the goal should have stood.

But what do the slow-motion replays reveal about a match which could have huge implications for Telford’s promotion chances?

Our video takes a look at the action.

Thanks to Mel Jones, from Brooklands Video, for the footage. For the full match DVD, go to www.brooklandsvideo.com, or www.telfordutd.co.uk

Hand on heart it was not a foul and Telford deserved to win the game.

Of course it was a foul, the defenders ankles were clipped.
Rob Smith is an idiot for arguing and appears to ooze a lack of class hence his red card.

Never a foul, but will Smith ever learn - deserves to be sent off for going on like that, even pushed back by his own player & the bench but still comes back for more.

    Clear foul

You can see Moore had his arm on Eaden’s shoulder, contact was minimal but there was contact so the goal was rightly ruled out.

It would have been hard on Kettering and would have robbed them of a deserved 3 points

It was clearly a foul and therefore the game has to be replayed, perhaps even the points should be awarded to Telford. Clearly this incident was the only controversial moment in the game and there were no bad fouls on Kettering players nor was Andy Hall fouled when clear in the second half.

The video is the only truth and having been there is no substitute for it.

looking at it a few times, its the type of foul that is given 9/10 in the defenders favor. There was just about enough contact, but obviously the defender made the most of it, as most experienced players in the same situation would.

I fully understand how Telford fans might be inclined to believe it wasn’t a foul - club loyalty will sway any such decision from objectivity, but the fact is that you have a manager in Smith who showed in his behaviour after the event that he carries the intent to have deliberately committed such a foul (and worse). The ref would have slept soundly on Saturday night knowing he had done the match a favour by sending Smith off.

With the standard of refs in this league, they are going to give dodgy decisions- but great pictures and TUFC can take a lot of comfort from their performance

Def no foul… tbh the video is not needed as Eaden admitted in front of several people that he tripped over his own feet. But it is no surprise the Kettering players have obviously been watching too much premiership football… they need some lead insoles to stop them falling over whenever there is a gust of wind!

Dav, Smith was not remonstrating with the Ref about the foul but about the fact that he had been wrongly booked for a comment made by Steve Jagielka!

Of course it was a foul! A clear two footed lunge to the back of the head! Well done kettering on your win by the way ;)

My Sunday paper said AFC Telford 0, Kettering 1 so there seems little point in discussing one incident. BTW, hats off to the video editor for making it seem as if AFC were unlucky! Your Mr Smith clearly has a very major discipline problem and, therefore, it’s no surprise that some of his players were, shall we say, rather agricultural.

It clearly was because that was the decision give by the ref.

Done and dusted now…points have been banked thank you all for your keen interest in this foul.
Shame the TV crew missed the shirt being removed from Andy halls Back though.
And what a fine example the manager of Telford is setting to young kids.

I was at the game it was not a foul.

Referees in this division are shocking! I have not seen a good Ref this season! The FA really should do something about it lol

  15. Andy said:

If thats a foul what about the body check by eaden on moore in second half! We never get decisions cos we have got a decent fan base refs cant handle it gainsboro take two

  16. Dickster said:

Kettering fans were so obviously unconcerned by the referee’s decision and its effect on the result that they took the time to look for an online forum to talk about it….
As for Shrewsbury fans commenting, I’d have thought you had your own problems to concern yourself with, such as being in freefall down League 2…
It wasn’t given, that’s about all there is to it, let’s just push on and forget about it.

Very harsh to give that as a foul! Don’t understand why so many people are upset with Rob Smith! I think that it shows his great desire to WIN!!! It was a top of the table clash and you would have thought that the league would have gotten suitably experienced referees to ref this game and not have a 18/19 year old as lines man!

I was there and as Mark (post #9) said it was actually Steve Jagielka who shouted at the ref which resulted in Rob being sent off!

And yes before anyone else says it… the decision made me ‘sick as a parrot!’

it wasnt a foul i was at the match and it didnt look like a foul at the time.the referee and linesmen at the match made some bad decisions but they werent the worst ive seen(anyone remember gainsbourough ref)

as for rob smiths attitude maybe kettering fans should look at their own manager his actions after the decision (made in his favour)were disgusting.banging on the dugout roof and shouting abuse and threats at the telford fans behind the dugout(even after the linesman that side had asked them several times to sit in the dugout) was just as bad as rob’s reaction.its no wonder the stewards had to be called and stood behind the dugout for the rest of the game.

it was a good game tho and telford deserved at least a draw

A clear foul; I can’t see what all the fuss is about? Kettering were the far better footballing side.

  20. robster said:

    foul all the way.

Smith should be punished for his out burst the man never learns.
