Husbands on loan at Bucks

Michael HusbandsSuper-fast striker Michael Husbands sprinted in to AFC Telford United today in time for tonight’s Setanta Shield clash with Redditch.Husbands, who is also celebrating his 24th birthday, has signed on a one-month loan from Macclesfield Town and goes straight into the squad for the second round clash.

The former Aston Villa apprentice has also had spells at Walsall and Port Vale, which he left in the summer to move to Moss Rose.

His arrival ends a protracted search for manager Rob Smith, who has been eager to add a forward to his squad ever since Justin Marsden broke his foot against Gainsborough on September 1.

“We’ve been looking for a long time now, and we were very close to doing a deal with Mansfield for Ian Holmes (the ex-Matlock striker), but he’s broken into the first team there,” Smith revealed.

“We’ve been looking at a number of options, both in the League and non-League. We’ve been looking for someone to replace Justin for pace, and we think we’ve got the perfect one here because this lad is rapid.

“He’s very highly rated at Macclesfield, and was their manager Ian Brightwell’s first signing.”

Smith is eager to see his side use tonight’s cup clash to bounce back bounce back from Saturday’s defeat at home to the Poppies.

Defender Indy Khela will return to the starting line-up after completing a one-match suspension, but wing-back Lee Vaughan is likely to be rested.

That means youth team graduate Elliott Durrell, the hero of the first round win over Solihull Moors, is set to get another start.
