Work was due to begin today on a memorial garden being created in the home village of a Shrewsbury police officer killed in the line of duty.
Constable Richard Gray died after rushing to the aid of fellow officers in Castlefields on May 6.
Pete Medlicott shot the officer before apparently turning the gun on himself. Constable Gray lived in Bayston Hill, near Shrewsbury, with his wife Jenny.
Members of the Bayston Hill Memorial Hall Committee were today expected to cut the first sod of the garden.
Allan Caswell, chairman of the committee, said offers of help continued to pour in, adding: “The Shropshire Star has offered to do the plaque for the garden.”
To offer support to the project call Mr Caswell on (01743) 873940, John Crick on (01743) 871279 or Phil Ragdale on (01743) 874164.
A joint inquest on Constable Gray and Mr Medlicott is due to take place in Shrewsbury in December.
