Wrexham go into tonight’s match against Wycombe Wanderers unclear about who is now actually in charge of the side. The board of directors finally appear to have reacted to the club’s perilous league position by announcing a new manager is to be named tomorrow, although Brian Carey has not been sacked.
Exactly what role, if any, struggling boss Carey is to play after the new appointment remains unclear.
A statement from the club’s directors said: “The directors are very aware of the club’s current situation and after reviewing matters are now looking to bring in an experienced senior manager to work alongside the present staff at The Racecourse - on a full time basis.
“The club is currently in negotiations and hopes to make a further statement in the near future about an appointment.”
The side have now lost 10 out of 13 league matches, are rooted in the relegation zone and only just avoided dropping out of the Football League last season.
After four straight defeats Carey will be looking to end his reign at the club he served so well as a player with a win against Wycombe.
The squad is still plagued with injury and key players Danny Williams and Mark Jones will be missing tonight, although Silvio Spann will be available to slot back into the midfield after serving a one match suspension.
Wycombe come into the game on relatively good form. The side are currently sitting just outside the playoff positions and are unbeaten in three games.
