Shrewsbury Town have been warned to prepare for the full force of a Darlington backlash as they bid to end the only remaining unbeaten home record in League Two tonight.Dave Penney’s Quakers had conceded just five goals in 13 games prior to last weekend, but were left shell-shocked by a 5-1 hammering at Hereford on Saturday.
Gary Peters, however, fears such a result could work against his team - who will themselves be desperate to follow-up Sunday’s victory at Wrexham with more rewards on the road.
“It’s a tough game anyway because Darlington are near the top of the league but their result at Hereford makes it even tougher,” he said.
“Anyone in football knows how it feels to be on the end of a result like that and it hurts. If I was their manager, I would be using the 5-1 scoreline to my advantage.”
Peters will be forced into at least one change tonight with winger Neil Wainwright unavailable as part of the loan deal from Darlington.
That is likely to mean a right midfield start for Ben Herd, while the Town boss could consider further changes should he fear weary legs from his side’s efforts at the Racecourse Ground just 48 hours ago.
But Peters has insisted he is confident the two-night preparation in the north-east will stand them in good stead for tonight.
“We got up here at 6pm on Sunday and because all the lads have been together, it feels quite a long time since the last match,” he added.
“We have got everything we can out of these two days - the lads trained yesterday and we will have trained again this morning so we think we are back on level preparation terms with Darlington despite them playing a day earlier than us.”
Darran Kempson has not made the trip as he struggles with an ankle problem.

no backlashes gp
Come on the town, don’t listen to any negative comments, you have started on a winning streak, Darlington have just been hit for six (sorry five) continue where you finished on Sunday and give 100% again, if Hereford can do it so can we.
UP THE TOWN. its such a good feeling to win.
If I say we will lose then we usually win. So we will lose. That should do the trick!!
