Adrian Gunnell today breezed into the final stages of snooker’s Northern Ireland Trophy - without dropping a frame.
The Shropshire cueman produced a stunning display to whitewash Jamie O’Neill 5-0, with the aid of four half century breaks. And Telford-based Gunnell was delighted with his showing at Prestatyn this morning.
“I played pretty much perfect snooker,” he beamed. “I didn’t give Jamie a chance and I’m really pleased.
“I just feel like I am cueing so much better now.”
Gunnel now heads to Belfast for the final stages next month.
But his delight contrasts sharply with one of the game’s legends, with black days appearing to be on the horizon for Jimmy White as he stands on the brink of the snooker wilderness.
White was hammered 5-0 by Chinese teenager Xiao Guodong in the same competition yesterday, to leave him in danger of dropping even further than the 68th place he currently holds on the provisional rankings.
The perennial crowd favourite now finds himself perilously close to dropping outside the top 64 at the end of the season, off the main tour and therefore losing his professional status.
